What is it like to be pregnant during a pandemic?
I will admit. It has been a bit since I last posted. That is changing, I promise. I am a whole new person… Actually I was busy making a whole new person. 😅 But now that that is all over I can share what it was like to be pregnant during a pandemic…. Coronavirus Pregnancy in 2020. 😊
Pregnancy Symptoms
I actually found out I was pregnant 1 week before the shutdown. No symptoms. The only symptom was a dream I had where my dad came to tell me “You are pregnant and it’s a little girl!” I woke up sent Casey for a test and what do you know… it was positive… it was also my birthday. Happy Birthday! 🥳😬
As time passed I did get other pregnancy symptoms.
- Energy Changes
- Tiredness
- Sleepiness (is that the same thing?)
- Appetite Changes
- Foods I liked… I suddenly didn’t like
- Cravings
- Nausea
- Vision changes
- Mood Changes
I always get asked if my symptoms were different boys vs girls. The answer is yes. Because of the symptoms I knew I was having a girl. So strange. 🤔
First Doctors Appointment
Typically your first doctors appointment isn’t until you are about 8 weeks along when you can hear the baby’s heartbeat.
They do bloodwork, you leave a urine sample and they tend to do a pap smear.
With the pandemic and to take precautions they skip the pap smear. At least, that was my case. 😅 I really don’t like getting them. 🥴
Appointments
Just like any typical pregnancy appointments are monthly until 30 weeks. Then it becomes biweekly until the last 5 weeks, then they become weekly.
For ultrasounds they like to only do them for the anatomy appointment and emergency or high risk pregnancies. If you want just a gender reveal you have to go to an outside source.
At the beginning of the pandemic they had me wait outside in my car and call in letting them know I had arrived. When they had a room available they would then call me to let me know I could go inside for my appointment. After that it was just masks and distance.
