DIY : Simple and Easy Orange Garland

Who doesn’t love a good garland? Especially when it’s cute and smells delicious!

Orange garlands are typically a Christmas tradition, but you can make one whenever you’d like.

There are many garlands you can make with oranges, this is just as simple as it gets. You can add cranberries, popcorn, or cinnamon! I’d go with cinnamon but I wanted to go simple this time around.

⚠️ For better results you may need more time. For even better results you should let them dry for 2-3 days.

What you need:

  • Oranges or clementines, mandarins, tangerines or blood oranges (which look pretty cool) We used a total of 3 for the garland in the images.
  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Cooking Prongs
  • Paper towels or napkins or clean towels – to soak extra juice from the oranges
  • Twine or Yarn, Thread, String. We love to use twine for everything, it just looks great for garlands. Very rustic.
  • Yarn needle- if you don’t have one you can use just about anything from a fork to a knife or even a toothpick to poke hole for the thread.

Optional:

If you want to add some popcorn, cranberries or cinnamon sticks to it, don’t forget those.

Preparation:

Start by preheating the oven to 250° F

Place a sheet of parchment paper the size of the baking sheet onto the baking sheet.

It even encourages kids to eat! 🤣

How to dry the oranges :

Using the knife and cutting board, take your oranges and cut them into 1/4 of an inch thick slices.

Before placing each slice on the sheet pat dry each side of the slice with a paper towel.

Then place the slices on the sheet making sure there is a little bit of space in between them.

Once the oven is done preheating place the baking sheet of orange slices in the oven.

250

Let them back for 2-3 hours. This will depend on how thick the slices are and how they react to the heat, so make sure you keep an eye on them. I burnt a few. 😉

Also, try to flip the slices 2-3 times. So they bake evenly. They should have a slight browning to the peel.

When time is up and you remove the baking tray out of the oven. Using the prongs remove the orange slices and place them on a drying rack. To tell you the truth I just let them cool on the baking sheet.

Voila. Now let them sit there and completely dry for 2-3 days before stringing them.

Do I really need to let them dry 2-3 days?

No. You don’t “have to” but letting them dry 2-3 days gives them time to dry completely, if not you run the risk of the peel ripping and the slices falling off the string. Yet, it is possible to just string them once they are cooled down. Totally up to you!
