Our First Kiddie Pools
If you know us well, you know we are constantly changing.
We are constantly moving, getting things, getting rid of things, researching, adjusting and finding what works best for us.
We get rid of what isn’t edifying our life to make room for what truly matters, which is usually “How can we make our kids lives a little better?” since they miss out on so much.
It’s tough at the moment with the Coronavirus. I am a person who would rather be safe than sorry. I know the kids want friends over, but with several of our kids having compromised immune systems, it’s not possible. It’s hard watching all the neighborhood kids gather in each others yards.
But the “Quarantine Life” has always been our life.
I wish that when we get invited to the pool, we could say yes, but, it’s not possible. To begin with, who would attend and stay with Liam?
The four older kids have always had a fear of water. But, ever since the youngest has been old enough to ask for baths and water play, it has encouraged the rest of the kids to become more comfortable with water.
I’m not one to push my kids. I encourage them and try to push their limits but I never push them. I encourage them to push themselves.
This has been the first time that we spend a summer in a home where we have sufficient outdoor space.
Casey began teaching the kids to dunk their faces in the water and they have absolutely loved it. It started with Gavin, which is a huge surprise, being the most afraid of water! Then Adam and last Eliana.
So we got some kiddie pools and most recently more goggles, since we only had one pair. (These pictures are from last week. My posts are planned weeks in advance.)
The kids had such a wonderful time as we watched EVEN LIAM DUNK HIS FACE!!! WHAT?! Wish I caught it. We do have to watch them carefully so they don’t swallow or breathe the water in.
Having a child with special needs CAN be limiting, if you let it. You can find other ways to have fun and enjoy life. Work around and do with what you have. Research and look for resources to make life a little more enjoyable.
Don’t focus on what you can’t do. Focus on what you can do.
This was the kids very first time in a kiddie pool, all of their own. While three dunk their heads almost the entire time, Liam laughed and splashed away. Abram was late to the show since he was having a nice nap, but he soon joined.
We can spend hours under the sun, in the water and be completely happy with life. Not a care in the world.
We also had a tiny friend visit us.
